Crochet success!

Apologies for the lack of posts! We had visitors to stay at the end of last week, with a manic tidy of the house in the days beforehand and a much-needed rest after they had gone…lovely to see them but it’s nice to have our own space back!

Aside from entertaining family, I’ve been working on a new skill in the past few days – crochet! I taught myself the basics a couple of weeks ago and since then have been working on my technique. I get bored just ‘practising’ without achieving anything, so the day after I’d sorted out my chain stitches and double crochet I started on a new peg bag (from a pattern in a magazine) seeing as the carrier bag they have been living in meant there were never enough around to hang all the washing up with… It wasn’t the most interesting thing in the world to make, and by the time I came to sewing it together I had lost interest and just wanted to get it done –  but it is useful, and it’s satisfying to have completed my first crochet project!

Now that’s out the way, I hope to move on to slightly more inspiring creations – the only problem being that I’m rapidly running out of my limited supplies of wool. I’m looking forward to being able to use a better quality wool as this bag was made up with the freebies from a magazine – fine for practising but not very pleasant to work with, and you wouldn’t want to wear anything made out of it! Any recommendations for interesting beginner projects welcome…

I’m linking up for the first time with the Small Blog Meet at Lily’s Quilts so hello if you’ve popped over from there!
